The San Diego Chargers

The Chargers have based their team around Big Ten O-linemen for a while now.

And they could go that route here.

But they've always been a place where huge linemen play, too.

And while Mike Adams has the tackle resume Cordy Glenn has size and some experience inside.

I've never really seen that 350 lb tackle on the left side make it. It won't stop teams from trying. If Gaither comes back healthy maybe the big fella can move inside.

The Cincinnati Bengals

Jerome Simpson got arrested. Drug related. It's still the Bungles !

But this team is very talented. Every once in a while they get motivated too. They can be very good when motivated.

So you have Cedric Benson at RB and not a lot of depth there. You could use a WR to put on the other side of Green.

But really, Nate Clements (in his 11th year) and Pac Man Jones are your corners ? Leon Hall could come back and Kelly Jennings is pretty high quality depth.

But Claiborne is the only CB to go so far. And the depth here is pretty good. So big CB dre kirkpatrick, fast CB Josh Robinson, tiny QB Janoris Jenkins ?

Jenkins fits the the Bengals rep.

The New York Jets

The Jets have a lot of positives. They have a lot of negatives too.

One negative is leaving, Plaxico Burress leaves them short a big possession WR.
One positive is leaving, Bart Scott leave some intensity lacking in the middle.

So you go one of two ways.

Alabama ILB Dont'a Hightower - who gets the call because Courtney Upshaw seems to lack a little motivation.
Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd- who ran pretty well but doesn't do any of those silly quickness drills.

Rex Ryan's ego says he can make a LB.

Michael Floyd.

The Philadelphia Eagles

What do you give a team that thinks they have everything ?

Last year in preseason the Eagles were declared the champions of the NFL.
Talk is cheap.

Can you get a grind it out attitude that will infect the rest of the team at the 15 slot or do you draft another shiny piece of bling ?

If the eagles are smart they try Luke Kuechly LB Boston College and hope that grind it out attitude carries over.

Kuechly has the size and speed to play the middle or outside and even coming out as the number one rated backer in the country he may be under-rated

The Dallas Cowboys

Originally Morris Claiborne was a top 5 pick. He's still a good player. But when Josh Robinson, Stephon Gilmore and especially teammate Ron Brooks ran 4.4 of better. The slender football player CB stopped looking so special.

It was that Brooks thing that did it. See, usually a college QB sees that lock down CB on his prime wide receiver and checks down. But with Brooks, Mathieu, Taylor, Simon, Reid all back for LSU and the pressure coming fast - you just heave it.

Doesn't mean Claiborne's a bad player. He should go in the top 5. He probably won't because of a 40 time. But he should and dallas gets a deal here.

The Arizona Cardinals

They need to fill out their lines. Really the skill position talent isn't that bad.

The biggest question is "Is Larry Fitzgerald Content?"- if he's not move him. I'm sure the Bears would love to have him.

Now, shoring up the lines is rough at 13. You've seen the top two tackles go. The top guard is off the board. It's awfully early to grab Pete Konz. Best NT is gone. 3-4 ends (and lets be honest this team is too tied to that 3-4) come later and through free agency.

So where do you go ?

Jonathon Martin, OT, Stanford.

The Seattle Seahawks

All the QBs are gone. So the seahawks look to shore up the defense.

I'd probably go with a small quick CB. But there's a hole at OLB with Leroy Hill having legal issues and a guy from USC that looked very able to drop back and fill that hole.

Nick Perry DE/OLB USC.

The Kansas City Chefs

This team stays healthy last year and they win the west. This year could be different. They have some age and some free agent issues.

But the best player on the board is G David DeCastro. DeCastro will help a teams running game. He posted slow 40 times but 40 times don't mean much. I once knew a LB who could slide step faster than he could move forward. DeCastro can 3 cone faster than he can sprint.

That means he can pull. That means he can move his feet well enough to create seems on the inside and if you're running a little guy like Charles or McCluster the idea of a big man that can create seems or get out front and pull is awfully attractive.

The Buffalo Bills -

Bad news Bills fans - changing defensive systems means changing personnel.
Worse news Bills fans the owner wants a wide receiver.

That means they may take a long look at Michael Floyd.

There's no real 4-3 OLBs out there at this spot. So the smart choice is probably a Defensive End -
Melvin Ingram has the heart and football smarts. Whitney Mercilus has better size.

Take the heart. Melvin Ingram.

The Carolina Panthers

Congratulations Panthers !

You took Cam Newton. Then you let him be Cam Newton.

Lock in on Steve Smith. Check. Check down once to Greg Olsen. Check. Run like hell. Brilliant.

Now it's time to look brilliant again.

Ron Rivera selects Dontari Poe and moves the big man around not forcing the dancing bear to just play the NT and take on double teams.

The Miami Dolphins

Mike Sherman is the new OC ?

They could use a LT. They could use another WR. They could use a RB.

They should draft Ryan Tannehill. He already knows the system. He has Matt Moore to groom him.

And he's alot like Jim Jensen !

The Jacksonville Jaguars

The jags need a big WR, a deep threat, and the consensus is Justin Blackmon stands out there.

Once upon a time Michael Crabtree was that deep threat. Now he's a possession guy. A possession guy would be a step up for the Jags, too. So Blackmon is fine.

Michael Floyd might be a better possession guy though. And Stephen Hill really makes you wonder what they might have had down at Georgia Tech if they ever passed the ball.

Blackmon is the pick. If he doesn't light it up they'll blame Gabbert.

the Washington Redskins -

Washington is one of those teams that should be moving up to take a QB. Not because they're one player away but because they need a face to their team.

But if they are still here and they very well could be - they need to address some issues.

Trent Williams is an idiot 3 strikes in a shortened season is just rude. DeAngelo Hall has the ego but wasn't great last year. They need a RB.

It's Riley Reiff or Morris Claiborne. Both looked better in season than at the combine. Claiborne drops a bit because Brooks moved up a bit. Reiff dropped a bit because he came in slow. RB - would Shanahan really go there ? And having Carriker, Cofield, and Bowen around might even make Dontari Poe attractive - and Poe is the best player out there.

If Washington is here they should go with Reiff by a hair. He can play G if necessary or he can let the team escort Trent Williams off the premises.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Read somewhere that the Bucs needed to find weapons for Josh Freeman.

Ridiculous. Arrelious Benn, Michael Williams, Dezmon Briscoe, Preston Parker, Sammie Stroughter, and Kellen Winslow. That's a pretty nice contingent of receivers.

Schiano was last in the NFL as a DB coach in Chicago. The best choice for the team may be Miami's Lamar Miller. Next in line is DB Morris Claiborne. And then there are two defensive ends that could fit - especially if Price, McCoy, and Miller are all back healthy- Melvin Ingram and Quinton Coples.

They could use a LB that can drop in coverage in Schiano's scheme. But most important is the pass rush. Those guys are rarer.

Quinton Coples. DE.

And the Cleveland Browns -

The Browns should be one of those two teams moving up to get Luck and or Griffin.

Should be.

But in the event that they are still sitting at 4 and looking at the board saying where'd the QB's go they'll find Trent Richardson RB - Alabama.

He's got some Shaun Alexander in him. A guy Holmgren certainly has fine memories of. Richardson will run like a combination of Mack and Byner. He wants to meet Ray Lewis in the hole.

Richardson may not be the best back in the draft. His speed may be questionable. In fact watching film of him - Richardson's machismo probably cost him yardage. There were times he could have followed blocks but seemed more interested in running over people.

The Minnesota Vikings -

Finally, a team that should stay on the board. We could go against the grain just to be contrarian.

But it's contrary enough to say build the O-line and good things happen. The two best O-linemen out there are Matt Kalil and David DeCastro. DeCastro may be better but Kalil is a LT.

Got to go with Kalil.

IF We Were the Rams...

This pick is gone too.

And whoever makes it is probably going to make a mistake. A mistake named Robert Griffin III.

Love RGIII - LOVE HIM ! don't get me wrong. He's great! Maybe better than Luck. But...

Whoever takes him is going to Kordell Stewart him. A long time ago Kordell was the best QB in a draft class. He got everyone around him drafted at CU. Threw the best deep ball in the draft had amazing touch and then...

He blew the combine away with his 4.3 forty times. And he got drafted. And the team that drafted him decided he wasn't Kordell the distributor who got everyone around him drafted. He was Slash.

He could run the ball, he could scramble, he could do it all ! and he did. But because he did he never developed as a QB and he ended up getting the little dings and nicks running QBs get. He got the shoe deals but never got great.

If We Were the Colts...

18 million for a broken QB is ridiculous. 18 million for Peyton Manning might not be ridiculous. 18 million for Manning and more for Andrew Luck ? Down right silly. And letting Manning walk without getting anything in return ? An insult.

Remember this team finished with 15 players not named Manning on the IR. Anthony Gonzalez also missed most of the year.

So what can you do ? No one usually trades up for the 1st pick but Luck is the most trade worthy 1st pick in years. Move down Indy. They'll be a QB at the top next year and there are plenty of decent back-ups kicking around. Have one in place this season.

With the bounty from the move down give Chuck Pagano something to work with on defense. Say a Dontari Poe, a Stephen Hill, a Ron Brooks, a Center and a RB. That's 5 picks. That may be over a couple of years but 5 of the right picks replaces Peyton more than 1 number 1 overall does.

Peyton takes a team like the dolphins to the playoffs and you'll look like fools.

Neck Injury around C6/C7 effects the triceps, fingertips, pectorals all thing a QB needs. Peyton will probably never be Peyton again. But he's earned the right to go out on his terms. Get him a back up. Pick up Brady Quinn !

Luck is pick 1. Who he should go to is not the colts.

It's draft time !

After reviewing other draft sites and noticing they are up to version 8.0, and visiting others that are daily changing and still others that offer expansive lists of the prospective number ones it became understood that posting 1 draft was dangerous. Posting 1 draft pre-combine was just plain dumb. So - a big board - and a single draft - a draft the way it should be - all before draft day. That's doable. None of this in my 7 edition I had 7 picks right and in the 8 others i got all 32 first round picks.

So here goes. Welcome back.
